DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING
Healthy and fresh indoor air is the key to a good quality of life. It is much more pleasant to live and work when the air quality is good, without the constant need to open windows and go out into the fresh air. Both air conditioning and ventilation help to improve indoor air quality. Although they are easily confused in daily communications, they affect the air in different ways. How do they differ and what should be considered when we talk about ventilation and air-conditioning?
AIR CONDITIONING
The main difference between air conditioning and ventilation is that in most cases the air conditioner does not use an external fresh air source to operate. The air conditioner does not supply fresh air into the apartment, instead the air conditioner uses the air already inside the room to heat or cool it, depending on your settings. It takes the air inside the room, changes its temperature, then returns the air back. This process will be constantly repeated until the room heats up or cools down to certain setpoint.
This means that harmful toxins, odors, pollen, bacteria or other air pollutants are not removed from the air, but simply periodically circulate within the room. Thus, air conditioning is more suitable for places that do not need the safest possible indoor air.
The air conditioning simply adjusts the air temperature.
VENTILATION
Ventilation means that used and “dirty” air is removed from the room and replaced with new, fresh and oxygen-rich air. Thanks to ventilation, it is easier for city residents to stay indoors and breathe freely. Ventilation also preserves the technical materials and structures of the apartment in a good condition, protecting them from dampness, overdrying and mold.
Let’s consider the supply and exhaust system: The air enters from the outside, it is filtered, heated (optional), mixed with the room air, and at the same time the exhaust air is removed from the room. This is a completely different principle of operation compared to air conditioning. For residential areas and workplaces with a large number of people, this is an ideal installation because it provides better air quality.
The real benefit of ventilation is that air quality strengthens your health, improves sleep, improves mood and performance. Many employees are forced to take sick leave due to poor health associated with poor air quality. With the introduction of a ventilation system, business owners notice a positive impact on the overall well-being and morale of employees.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING
There is a huge misconception among people that there is no difference between ventilation and air conditioning, or it is small. Understanding how these two systems work can have a huge impact on your business, depending on your needs.
In fact, air treatment at home or in a business space may not seem to be the top need in your tasks hierarchy . However, from the health and performance point of view – it is as much important as food, water or safety. This is truth for your family or employees, the quality air exchange is a vital and key factor that is more important than you might expect.
